1981년 26회 유로비젼 송 콘테스트에서 그랑프리를 차지해, 전 세계적인 슈가 팝 그룹으로 성장한

벅스 휘즈(Bucks Fizz)는, 콘테스트 개막 두달 전에 결성된 특이한 그룹이다.

영국의 유명 작곡가인 니콜라 마틴(Nicola Martin)과 앤디 힐(Andy Hill)은 콘테스트에 출품하기

위해 ＜Making Your Mind Up＞을 공동 작곡하여 놓고, 이 곡을 부를 뮤지션을 찾았다.

적당한 뮤지션을 찾지 못하고 고심하던 이 두 사람은, 새로운 그룹을 만들기로 결심했다.

무리한 생각인줄 알면서도 수소문 끝에 골라낸 4명의 멤버는, 노래 외에도 눈으로 즐길 수 있는

 미모의 소녀 2명과 미소년 2명으로, 각자의 개성과 재능을 한데 모아 훌륭한 하모니를 만들어냈다.

런던 출신이며 세션 싱어였던 Cheryl Baker, 런던의 쇼 비지네스 가족 출신의 베테랑 Jay Aston,

탤런트이면서 싱어로 활동했던 Michael Nolan, 『Jesus Christ Superstar』의 영국 공연에서

목수 역을 맡았던 Bobby Gee 등 이들은 평소 각자 연예계에서 활동한 인물들이었으므로 빠른

시간내에 결실을 볼 수 있었다.

 니콜라 마틴이 평소 좋아하던 칵테일 이름을 그룹 이름으로 사용하고 있는 Bucks Fizz는

유로비젼 송 콘테스트에서 그랑프리를 차지하고 난 뒤로도 계속해서 6장의 싱글을 발표해,

 이 중에 3곡을 빌보드 챠트 넘버 원을 기록하는 대성공을 보았다.

이름에서 풍겨오듯 청순한 사운드와 요정과 같이 아름다운 미모를 갖춘 이들은,

관능적인 화음과 다이나믹한 사운드로 선풍을 일으키고 있는데,

여성 멤버인 세릴 베이커는 코 코(Co-Co)란 그룹을 조직해 유로비젼 송 콘테스트에

여러 번 참가한 경력을 지닌 상당한 실력자로 알려져 있다.
